Here the equipment takes center stage, from old to the modern piece of weightlifting equipment.

 Rolandow Barbell

The Rolandow Barbell takes center stage at the York Barbell museum.  Rolandow was a Swiss strongman who's best lift was the bent press (See Bent Press article), with a best of 299-pounds, one of the best performances in this lift.  This barbell no doubt was bent pressed many times.  Originally owned by another famous strongman, Professor Attila and then by Sig Klein who purchased all of the Professors equipment.

 Schaffron Dumbbell

The Schaffron Dumbbell was created by and lifted by Harry Schaffron, a vaudevillian strongman who designed his own weights for the stage.  Note the thick handle, showing that Schaffron knew the secret behind Thomas Inch's famous dumbbell.

 Early Cable Machine

This picture was taken from an ad in the back of "Indian Clubs and Dumb Bells," by Dougherty, a Spalding Athletic Library book, 1914.  It was made for home use and only cost $10.  It was a bit underweight, with only 10-pounds per handle.
